We've Moved!

Moving
WFRS is moving the shelter to a new location.
See the new address above, we're now in Everett.
Please be patient with us as we will be extremely busy working on this move.
  • We will be doing adoptions and surrenders by appointment only.
  • No person will be admitted to the shelter without proof of full vaccination and must be wearing a mask.
This is because ferrets are susceptible to COVID, and we cannot risk having it infect shelter ferrets.
  • We will limit it to one party of guests at a time.
  • For adoptions, please read the information here to be prepared.
  • For Surrenders, please contact us by mail to arrange a time, so that we can have things ready for the new ferrets.

How you can help

Volunteers are the heart and soul of WFRS. We have no paid staff, just people willing to help give these wonderful animals a chance to experience a comfortable life and a loving home. Whatever your skills and interests, there's a good match for you, but you must be 16 years or older. Please see our Volunteer page or drop by the shelter for an application. Learn how you can help keep more ferrets from landing at a shelter! You are always welcome to contact us for more information about volunteer and outreach opportunities.

Shelter PictureFinancial support is always needed. We mostly pay out of pocket for food, cleaning materials, bedding, cages, medicine and surgeries, and other necessities for shelter kids. One ferret with adrenal disease, a common illness in ferrets 3+ years of age, can easily cost $350 a year. We must pay rent at our main shelter facility in Kirkland, where our 70-odd adoptable and newly-rescued ferrets are housed. Additionally, we maintain a network of more than 20 foster homes which can provide skilled rehabilitation services to ferrets with biting, depression or other behavioral problems caused by abuse or neglect. Foster parents also provide loving, lifetime care to ferrets who may never find permanent homes due to severe behavioral or medical issues.

Currently, some of our critical ongoing needs at the shelter include:
  • paper towels
  • new or clean, gently used bedding (fleece sacks or remnants, pillowcases, sheets, non-woven blankets).
Please visit our Donations page to see some other items we really need. Find out how private donations have really made a difference in the lives of ferrets in our area!

Your support enables us to pay for food, medicine and veterinary care. And your gift is tax-deductible! Some employers, such as Microsoft, will double your contribution and even pay an hourly "wage" for employees who volunteer for WFRS.
